Enlightening and Inspiring Generations with Generations of Ideas

Fiesta! Dia de Los Muertos (English Version)

Event Date:
Oct 29 2015 - 6:00pm

Cultural, creative, artistic…fun!  Join us, Thursday, October 29th, at 6:00 p.m, at the LaSalle Public Library when Folk Musician and Artist, Anna Stange leads a workshop that is both entertaining and educational.  For children aged 8 years and up, this fascinating event will introduce participants to “The Day of the Dead,” a popular Mexican family celebration of the lives of one’s ancestors.

Plaster cast mask-making is the first part of this unique two hour workshop.  Anna supervises the participants as they make plaster casts of their faces or hands while providing cultural background detailing the significance of these artistic expressions.  While the plaster elements dry, the participants will enhance their understanding of the festival as they enjoy singing songs both from and about Mexico, complete with authentic instruments and costumes.  Participants then will use tempera paints and other materials to decorate their masks.

This upbeat and exciting program is free and open to the public, but registration is required, and space is limited to 30 participants.  Registration will be open through October 26th or until filled.  Children under the age of 8 years may not participate this year.  Funding for this program was provided by the Alwin C. Carus Trust.
